Nicotine Is the New Wonder Drug

July 10, 2007

Slashdot pointed me to Researchers Light Up for Nicotine, the Wonder Drug :

“Nicotine acts on the acetylcholine receptors in the brain, stimulating and regulating the release of a slew of brain chemicals, including seratonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Now drugs derived from nicotine and the research on nicotine receptors are in clinical trials for everything from helping to heal wounds, to depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, anger management and anxiety.”

And why is it that some of us aren’t shocked? Do remember that the dangers of ‘smoking’ come from the combustion of organic materials. Smoking maple leaves or lawn-grass clippings or dried spinnach will have the same effect on your body as tobacco, I’m told. No wonder though, that Nicotine is so addictive.
