Chocolate (2008) + autism

February 3, 2009

Jeremy just sent me a link he found to this movie: Chocolate (2008): “An autistic woman with powerful martial art skills looks to settle her ailing mother’s debts by seeking out the ruthless gangs that owe her family money.”

The preview is rated R, so please do not watch it if you think you might be offended.

Now that’s particular.

I know why this can be offensive on so many levels, but as someone on the spectrum, my thoughts were like, “Ya, that makes sense… sort of the way I grew up… without the fine motor skills… watching people, learning from them, trying to be useful… with a little anger to burn off.”

  1. But she doesn’t appear to be angry because of autism. She’s a martial arts superstar because she’s autistic, and angry because people have wronged her family, yes?

  2. Very goood point. I will have to see the movie to find out.
